The Union Budget 2024-25 announced the Pradhan Mantri Internship Yojana (PMIY). This scheme aims to provide internships to young individuals, offering a monthly stipend of ₹5000. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, as part of the fifth Pradhan Mantri package, stated on July 23rd that the government will launch a comprehensive plan to provide internship opportunities in “500 top companies” for one crore young people over five years.

PM Internship Scheme 2024: A Detailed Overview
This scheme offers students a 12-month experience in real-world professional environments, exposing them to diverse professions and employment opportunities. A monthly internship stipend of ₹5000 and a one-time assistance of ₹6000 will be provided. The scheme will be implemented in three phases: the first phase will span two years, while the second and third phases will each cover three years. Participating companies are expected to contribute 10% of training and internship costs from their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds. Applications for the PM Internship Yojana will be submitted through an online portal, details of which are yet to be announced.
Eligibility Criteria
This scheme is applicable only to individuals who are not employed or enrolled in full-time education and are between the ages of 21 and 24. Ineligibility Criteria
According to the government’s indicative list, candidates with qualifications like Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT), Indian Institutes of Management (IIM), Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), CA, CMA, etc., are not eligible for the internship. Candidates whose family members are employed in government jobs or are income tax payers are also ineligible.
