Scheme Details
On July 23rd, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a comprehensive scheme aiming to provide internship opportunities in “top 500 companies” for one crore youth over the next five years, as the fifth scheme under the Prime Minister’s package.
This scheme allows students to gain real-world business environment experience across various professions and employment avenues for up to 12 months. Participants will receive an internship allowance of ₹5,000 per month, along with a one-time support of ₹6,000.
The scheme’s implementation will be structured in phases: the first phase spanning two years, followed by the second and third phases, each lasting three years.
Participating companies are expected to contribute 10% of the training and internship costs from their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds. The application process for this scheme will be conducted through an online portal, with details to be announced soon.
Top 500 Companies
The selection of the “top 500 companies” participating in the PM Internship Yojana is at the discretion of the companies themselves. Their participation will depend on their individual decisions.
Cost Sharing
Under the PM Internship Scheme 2024, the government will provide ₹54,000 per month as an allowance and a grant of ₹6,000. Participating companies are expected to contribute ₹6,000 monthly from their CSR funds. The training costs will be borne by the company. The Ministry of Finance has stated that this scheme will be integrated with relevant initiatives by state governments where necessary.
Eligibility Criteria
The PM Internship Yojana 2024 is applicable to individuals who are not currently employed or enrolled in full-time education, and who are between the ages of 21 and 24. Companies providing internships will be required to shortlist candidates based on objective criteria, with a focus on companies demonstrating low employability. Ineligibility
According to the indicative list shared by the government, candidates with qualifications from institutions like the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), Indian Institutes
