The SSC will release the notification for the Stenographer Grade ‘C’ & ‘D’ Examination, 2025, on June 05. Candidates who want to be appointed as Stenographer Grade C and D posts in various government ministries, departments, and organizations will be able to apply for this exam, if they meet the certain eligibility criteria.
The window to apply for this exam will be available on the official website of the Staff Selection Commission from 5 to 26 June 2025, and aspirants will be able to apply by visiting at https://ssc.nic.in/. The exam is held in two stages, the first one is the Computer-Based Examination and second is the Skill Test in Stenography.
Candidates who are interested in sitting in this exam should know that the CBE is tentatively scheduled to be held from 6 to 11 August 2025. Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility criterias to apply for this exam are given below, go through the listed points to check that you are eligible to apply or not.
- A candidate must have passed the Intermediate (Class 12) Exam with Science, Commerce or Arts stream from a school recognised by the CBSE or any other Central or State Board.
- The age of candidate shouldn’t be below 18 years, the upper age limit for Grade C and Grade D is 27 years and 30 years, respectively.
- The age relaxation is applicable as per Government of India rules, which are given below.
- OBC-NCL: 3 Years
- SC/ST: 5 Years
- PwBD:
- UR: 10 Years
- OBC-NCL: 13 Years
- SC/ST: 15 Years
The candidate must be an Indian citizen, or from Nepal or Bhutan, or a Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1962, or a person of Indian origin from certain other countries, who came to live in India and he or she must be proficient in English and Hindi.
Exam Pattern & Syllabus
The SSC will hold the CBE with an exam time duration of 02 hours, a total number of 200 MCQs will be asked from four different sections. The details about the sections can be found inside the table below:

Each question in this exam will be of 1 mark and 0.25 mark is going to be deducted for incorrect response; the medium of exam will be English and Hindi.

Pay Scale

- Pay Level: Level 6
- Grade Pay: ₹4200
- Basic Pay: Starts at ₹35,400
- Gross Salary: Around ₹50,000 – ₹60,000
- Posting: Generally in Central Government Ministries in Delhi.
- Promotions: Faster, can be promoted to Private Secretary, etc.
Stenographer Grade D
- Pay Level: Level 4
- Grade Pay: ₹2400
- Basic Pay: Starts at ₹25,500
- Gross Salary: Around ₹35,000 – ₹45,000
- Posting: Often in subordinate offices, and may be outside Delhi.
- Promotions: Slower compared to Grade C, but can move to Grade C over time.

- Attach documents in PDF in between the size of 50kb and 100kb with photograph and signature.
