# Government Employees Education DA: Significant Hike in Allowances

The Central Government has announced a significant decision, increasing allowances for its employees. Following the earlier increase of Dearness Allowance (DA) up to 50% for employees and retirees at the beginning of the year, the government has also decided to automatically increase certain other allowances, such as Children Education Allowance (CEA) and Hostel Subsidy, by 25%.
This announcement follows new instructions issued by the Department of Personnel & Training, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, on April 25, 2024, regarding the Dearness Allowance. The Ministry of Finance, Department of Expenditure, has clarified that the increase in DA to 50% for central government employees effective from January 1, 2024, has led to various inquiries regarding the admissible amounts of Children Education Allowance (CEA) and Hostel Subsidy.

* **Automatic Increase:** With the rise in Dearness Allowance (DA), the limits for several allowances for central government employees automatically increased by 25% from January 1, 2024, after the Dearness Relief (DR) reached 50%.
* **Clarification Issued:** The Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions has issued a clarification on the 25% increase in certain allowances following the DA hike from January 1, 2024.
## Allowance Increase Details
According to the new rules, the Ministry has stated that, "Whenever the Dearness Allowance on the revised pay structure reaches 50 percent, the ceiling of Children Education Allowance and Hostel Subsidy will automatically increase by 25 percent."
Despite this, the Ministry has also clarified that several inquiries have been received from various sources regarding the admissible amount of Children Education Allowance (CEA) and Hostel Subsidy payable to central government employees following the Dearness Allowance (DA) reaching 50% from January 1, 2024.
## Revised Allowance Amounts
* **Children Education Allowance (CEA):** The reimbursement amount is set at ₹2,812.50 per month.
* **Hostel Subsidy:** The amount is set at ₹8,437.50 per month.
### Children Education Allowance (CEA) for Disabled Children
The Ministry has set the Children Education Allowance (CEA) reimbursement amount for disabled children of government employees at double the normal rates, which is ₹5,625 per month.
### Special Allowance for Child Care for Disabled Women
The rates for the special allowance for child care for disabled women have been revised to ₹3,750 per month, subject to other conditions mentioned in the office memorandum of this department.
