The High Court of Gujarat, in view of the guidelines issued by the Hon’ble Supreme Court in the Case of Malik Mazhar Sultan & Anr. V/s. U.P. Public Service Commission & Ors., reported in (2008) 17 SCC 703 and as per the provisions prescribed under ‘The Gujarat State Judicial Service Rules, 2005’ (as amended from time to time) invites Online Applications from eligible candidates for filling up approximately 212 Regular Vacancies (existing & future), for selection, by way of Competitive Examinations, for the Cadre of Civil Judges in the Pay-Scale of Rs. 77,840/- – Rs. 1,36,520/- plus allowances as admissible under the Rules. The category-wise breakup in respect of the Regular vacancies are as shown hereinbelow:
Civil Judges – 212 Posts
Eligibility Criteria:
- Educational Qualification:
- A candidate must possess a Degree in Law from a recognized University.
- Will have to pass the vernacular (Gujarati) language proficiency test
- Must be practicing as an Advocate in Courts of Civil and/or Criminal Jurisdiction.
- Candidates should possess a Certificate(s), certifying to be possessing Basic Knowledge of Computer Application / Operation, issued by a Government Institute or other recognized Institute.
- Age Limit:
- General category candidates should not exceed 35 years of age.
- For SC/ST/SEBC candidates, the upper age limit is relaxed by 3 years, making it 38 years.
- For candidates working in the Courts or other Allied Departments, the upper age limit is 40 years.
Selection Process:
The selection process typically comprises three stages:
- Preliminary Examination (Elimination Test):
- Objective type questions.
- Marks obtained in this test are not considered for the final selection.
- Serves as a screening test to shortlist candidates for the Main Examination.
- Main Written Examination:
- Descriptive type questions.
- Consists of two papers, each of 100 marks.
- Candidates need to secure a minimum of 50% in each paper to qualify.
- Viva-Voce (Oral Interview):
- Candidates who qualify in the Main Written Examination are called for the Viva-Voce.
- Assesses the candidate’s mental alertness, knowledge of law, clear and logical exposition, balance of judgment, skills, attitude, ethics, power of assimilation, power of communication, and intellectual depth.
